The most fun you'll have is accessorizing your ladder. If you look along the route, you'll see some with designs and some that are just plain. Here is an old photo of my 2009 start. I mounted a bicycle kid carrier to the box and put my cupholders on the sides. I don't recommend that any more. The kids can grab your beer, and the ladders can't be too close together. By the way, the cupholders are PVC pipe.
After a few years, when I rebuilt the box, I added some compartments and moved the cupholders to the back. I tried using some flat speakers I had for sound. They proved to produce very little sound amongst a crowd.
The next year, I equipped my ladder with some inexpensive speakers and an old car radio I had in the attic. It fit perfectly in the left compartment. I powered it with my jump-start battery I keep in the truck. I later switched to a cheap car amp from Amazon that I could play from the iPhone.
My brother in law added piping to his ladder for guiding the beads down into bags on the ground. I chose some hooks underneath mine and the kids drop them there. But it does add top-heavy weight...
I also added a light on the bottom of the box support that shines down on the bags. and one on the front of the ladder to light the way after a long night on the walk back to the car. LED's can do anything these days, so buy some LED's and have a blast.
